16 months of wonderful crazy! :)

So today our Evelyn is 16 months old! :) She is a tiny little squirt full of energy and life! We had her 15 month check up last week and well she is now weighing in at a staggering 20.8 lbs, that is with her clothes, shoes, and wet diaper on! so pretty much she is only 20 lbs. So this weight puts her at the 10th percentile of toddler girls her age. Yeah I said squirt! :)  She is 2 feet 6 inches and that is 25th percentile, so a little better! But she is wonderful and healthy, and definitely getting her molars!

This week has been eventful for us... Friday night Evelyn was playing and well it is not unusual for her to go in and out of the kitchen and living room. Well Friday night Evelyn ran into the kitchen, and well it got a little too quite.... guess what I found? Evelyn sitting (yes sitting) on the kitchen table!!!! Oh my goodness, I almost had a heart attack! We officially have a climber on our hands. So the remainder of the weekend was spent saying "no Evelyn, get down from there" yeah now she is really good at saying "no" cause I said it so much this weekend. It is pretty funny when she says no, though.

This leads me to my other issue. Discipline... man it is a tricky thing to discipline a cute little toddler, whose main crime is curiosity. I generally take the stance of letting her explore her environment and learn things for herself, however she clearly gets herself in danger. Oh and she feeds off my reactions, good or bad, if I take her away from the 'naughty' thing she is doing, she thinks that is fun, then I put her in her crib which she likes for a while. I have to let her sit for a while until she is mad then let her out. I guess it is working somewhat, but she is a stinker!

Oh on other exciting news from this week, Evelyn took a new step toward "big girl" yep, she is officially bottle-less, meaning she is no longer drinking from a bottle and gets a sippy cup for everything. Yippy! :) She still has her pacifier though, but one thing at a time! :)

Her vocabulary is increasing dramatically, her new favorite word is 'hot' she loves to say everything is 'hot' even when it is not.  Also I have gotten her to say 'up' when she wants wants to come up in my arms, rather than grunting at me. She also loves to go out to stores with us and say 'hi' to everyone we pass, I mean everyone! :)  She loves shoes and wants to always put shoes on people and it is so cute to hear her say 'shoe' imagine it with an exaggerated sh sound! It is so cute! Endless fun in our house and everyday is an exciting adventure. I am sure the next 16 months will be just as crazy and fun!

Outdoor kind-of Kid

Well since the weather has been improving (in an up and down fashion) I have been going for lots of walks with Indy and Evelyn. She loves to go for walks, and good luck to you to try and get out the door without her in your arms! :) As most of us know the weather has been hit or miss, but you can't explain this to a 15 month old, so she insists to go even if it is cold, so Mike and I just make sure we bundle her up on our walks! She points (and grunts) at a lot of stuff and I tell her what we see, she trys to mimic me when I tell Indy to "come", says "hi" to everyone we pass (even cars) and she wiggles and bounces her feet all along the way! :) They are a fun, pretty much daily thing that we do when we get home from work and the sitter's house.

Bundled up good for our walk in the chilly afternoon.

"lets get going already!"

Me saying "Mike take a picture so I can be in the blog too!"

Walking around the block!

Trivia!

Well it has been absent, but, IT IS BACK! Are you ready for some trivia?!? :)  This week we are going to try shorter kind of fun factoids about spring....

1) What type of bulb can substitute for an onion?
Tulip bulbs can be used in place of onions for cooking.

2) What two flower colors do honeybees prefer?
There are approximately 270,000 species of flowers; honeybees prefer yellow and blue ones.

3) How many flowers must bees collect pollen from to make a one pound comb of honey?
Bees collect nectar from 2 million flowers to make a 1-pound comb of honey.

4) How many worms does a young robin eat daily?
A young robin will eat as much as 14 feet of earthworms a day.

5) If you are standing next to someone, do you both see the same rainbow?
A rainbow is formed by the reflection of specific raindrops, and a person standing next to you will see different droplets from the ones you see. Thus, although many people can look at a rainbow at the same time, it will appear different to each person.

Busy Bees!

Much like anyone else in our age range, it seems as though we are so busy! :)  We have something going on every weekend until July, and I am sure those weekends will fill up soon as well! Busy is good, I know, and it is wonderful to have so many things to do and so many wonderful people to spend time with! :)

This past weekend we were in Green Bay for my cousin Breyan's wedding reception, she and her husband Nick were married in Mexico in February, and we celebrate with style! :) It was a blast, and Evelyn was being her normal crazy active little self! Picture this (cause it was hard to capture with the camera) but she wore a blue dress that had short sleeves so for a little while we had a cute pink sweater thing over it. Well after dinner she started to run around with some of her cousins so I took off her sweater, well I am not sure if she thought this meant that she was going to get changed, but she proceeded to run around the dance floor lifting her dress up in the air, showing her belly and bloomers for all to see! Oh my goodness I was embarrassed and at the same time laughing so hard! She had some cute bloomers on but we got to see the whole Buddha belly! As I proceeded to tell her to keep her dress down, she thought this was a fun interaction with mommy (she is totally feeding off our reactions lately) so she kept doing it! Pretty much we had a streaking little baby on our hands running around the whole dance floor and connected sitting area and hallway! Since everyone knows how little Evelyn is, you can imagine the funny tiny running baby that weaved in and out through peoples legs and the "poor" mommy and daddy that chased her around trying to keep up! :) it was funny, and a great time!

We also got some swimming in at the pool area in our hotel that also had some slides for Evelyn and her cousin Milli to go on, they had a blast! They really are such good buddies, Milli even said Sunday night when she was home that she misses her best friend Evie! :)

It was very difficult to get a good picture of her crazy "dancing" or more like streaking! So funny!

We bought a swim aid for her which is suppose to aid in their swimming skills, with the help of parents of course. Here she is trying it on before we went, and of course I didn't get pictures in the water... I am sure there will be some in the future.

Milli and Evie are best buddies that look like two little monkeys eating their bananas at the hotel! :)

Finished off our trip to Green Bay with a yummy root beer float! :)

Best Buddies

Evelyn and Indy are the best-est of buddies! Evelyn is also surprisingly helpful and loves to get Indy his food at feeding times! I have some videos, but don't know how to post them... but here are some pictures of the best buddies.

Daddy fill the bowl, Evelyn carries it to the bathroom (and make sure I see and comment) and then she places it for Indy, he follows behind her the whole way! :)

Evelyn decided to lay down next to Indy and feed him her play food, such a goof, she treats him just like any of her little non-furry friends.

Giving each other some love! :)

Family matters

Evelyn is one fortunate little girl to have 6 older cousins to look up to and learn from. Also it is great that my whole family actually likes each other quite a bit and we try to make sure we do fun things together as often as we can. Here are just a few snapshots of some of the fun these cousins have together.

In March we went to Disney on ice and then went to stone fire pizza. These pictures are of Evelyn watching Disney on Ice so intently (she did really well) and then of her going on the slide with help of big cousin Elly. Lastly of cousin Sophie (9 months older) giving big hugs! :)

My sister Amy has a daughter Milli, and Evie and Milli get to play quite a bit, Milli even calls Evie her sister... I thought these pictures were cute of the two of them... best friends just like their mommies! :)

We have lots of birthday parties and fun to have, here are some pictures from Elly and Sophie's birthday party. Yes Evelyn can fit in a shoebox, I swear we feed her! :)

Who we are

They say you can't really change a person, and to a really large extent I think I agree with that! :) So this statement was provoked by my amusing (well to me) teasing of Mike as we were driving home last night. So Mike and I are very fortunate to be able to drive together and save money on our decently long commute to work. Anyway, he always drives and when I chat to him, well I look at him, and I have been finding some sneaky little grey hairs on his head! HAHAHA! SO of course I am teasing him a lot about this (I think I found my first grey when I was 20 or something ridiculous) but this bothers some people, and well I think Mike doesn't like to be teased about this as much as I am teasing him. But since I am a baby of four and it is just in my nature to be the nagy-pesky-little-sibling type personality, I have to rub this into Mike, and keep pointing out the greys I find (yes there are like 6 of them!). :)

I am constantly fascinated by birth order and the impact of how you were raised. On top of that I feel how your relationships with your parents and siblings are/were is a huge factor in the way people are. I feel fortunate to be surrounded by really good relationships with people in my family and now even in my husbands family! I am truly blessed, even if I can be a sassy stinker some times, and you all know I can be! :)

Now as Evelyn's little personality continues to grow, I am constantly amazed and in awe of the little things that make her who she is (and terrified about the parts of me that show up in her). I love this part of parenting right now, watching her grow and become, well Evelyn, this truly is a blessing. The last few months have been a whirlwind and sometimes I wonder how she got to where she is, almost in a blink of my eye she has become smart and communicative, it truly is amazing! I am just thinking now of how much I can't wait to be home with her and watch as she grunts to come up in my arms (we are working on saying "up") and then proceeds to hit me in the face (which we are working on "ouch" and "be nice") and then following up with the cutest sweetest little hug as she realizes she hurt her mommy! Truly blessed I am! :)

I will end this with some amazing quotes I found:

It's not only children who grow.  Parents do too.  As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours.  I can't tell my children to reach for the sun.  All I can do is reach for it, myself.  ~Joyce Maynard

Making the decision to have a child is momentous.  It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.  ~Elizabeth Stone

You don't really understand human nature unless you know why a child on a merry-go-round will wave at his parents every time around - and why his parents will always wave back.  ~William D. Tammeus

March Madness

I know the apologies are empty when you don't improve on your errors... however I hereby solemnly swear to do more posts, so come back and check often! Also, my blogging mentor Katie informed me that I can schedule post to come out at later dates... so I am going to try to do shorter, sweeter posts more frequently. One thing that has delayed me, and something that I don't like about myself, is that I can get easily overwhelmed with something or feel over my head (keeping up with photos and posts every night and to feel like you can fit that time in is overwhelming to me) I then drag my feet so to speak, but better late than never! :)

SO much like her mother and father our daughter Evelyn is a goofy little ham! she is so funny, I wish I could adequately explain her silly little antics but see these pictures, cause like they say, a picture speaks a thousands words!! :)

Evelyn and I made a necklace from her links, then she 'hammed it up' for the camera, the middle picture is her amazing zoolander pose/face! :)

Rocking the mohawk in the tub! :)

trying on her swimsuits for some water fun! Everyone tries on their suits over onsies and jammies, right?!? :)

Happy Belated Easter!!

Easter egg hunts are so much fun, Evelyn had her first Easter egg hunt at my friend Steph's baby shower, she did really well for her first time and it went very smoothly! She actually was the first kid to find all their eggs! Well she did have it a bit easier cause she was the youngest, but still she did really well. Enjoy!

Super excited to find eggs!

Feeling like a big shot!

"Where did you say the egg was?"

oops, spilled them and got to pick them up!

The bucket is almost as big as me! :)
